Saturday, September 20, 2014: The traffic police department has made a move to organise traffic in Allahabad. It has started working on solar powered signalling system for traffic management around five major crossings of the city. The system has been proposed for ten major crossings including Mayor Hall, Dhobighat, Subhash crossing (Civil Lines), Hanuman temple crossing and Eklavya crossing.
Traffic inspector, Indra Pal Singh informed that the traffic management through solar systems have already picked up the pace at five main crossings and will soon cover the remaining five. The team of traffic constables and home guards were sent to all five crossings to inform the commuters about the system and to allow successful installation of the same.
Department is putting constant efforts to make the commuters aware about the new signalling system using various means. However few disruptions were observed at Mayor Hall crossing when cops had to stop the traffic forcibly and it started only after the signal started working. The senior officials have assured that the commuters will soon get used to this new system and would help in easy traffic movement.
The solar run traffic signalling has been successful in cities like Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur and Bareilly. The solar panel at top of the pole helps in converting solar energy into electric energy. Officials added that they have even connected the regular power supply as well to avoid any sort of problem.
