New solar plants and R&D centre in India

Friday, October 11, 2013: India’s manufacturing sector is set to take a giant leap, with the government announcing a slew of measures to boost domestic manufacturing. As a result, various companies catering to different sectors such as consumer electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India.

With the government promoting the solar sector as well, many solar plants are coming up in the country. Besides these, India is also witnessing the setting up of many testing centres and design houses.

Who will benefit
The setting up of new production facilities, solar plants, testing centres and design houses will help in the development of many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement (T&M) devices, surface mount technology (SMT) as well as through-hole machines, components, chemicals and consumables.

Jakson Power Solutions

Jakson Power Solutions has secured a new 10MW solar project as an independent power producer (IPP) from the Uttar Pradesh government under the state’s solar power policy announced in 2013. Jakson will set up the solar IPP in Bundelkhand region at a total cost of Rs 800 million, and is targeting to commission the project by March 2014.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL)
Deals in: Power, transmission, transportation, industrial systems, non-conventional energy, R&D
BHEL’s electronics division in Bengaluru has won a contract from NTPC Ltd worth Rs 960 million to set up a 15MW solar power plant. BHEL will design, manufacture, test, install and commission this grid-interactive plant at Singrauli in Uttar Pradesh. BHEL will also operate and maintain the plant for a year. This new solar power plant will be established near NTPC’s 2000MW thermal power plant and will supply over 23 million units of solar power every year to the Uttar Pradesh grid.

EI DuPont India Pvt Ltd Deals in: Science-based solutions for industrial systems, automotive, healthcare, agriculture and energy DuPont, a US-based multinational has set up an application development centre for the automotive industry. The centre enables solutions for light-weighting, engine performance, comfort and safety. The facility aims to develop value-added solutions that enable better, safer and sustainable products. This centre houses thermoplastic and elastomer processing and testing equipment leveraging DuPont’s existing analytic equipment shared with several DuPont science disciplines. This complements the manufacturing facilities in Savli, Gujarat, and DuPont India Innovation Centre in Pune.
