Rajasthan government aims to produce 30 gigawatts of solar power by FY25, enhancing energy security and promoting self-reliance.

The Rajasthan government targets 30 gigawatts (GW) of solar power production by the end of FY25, aiming for self-reliance in the power and energy sector. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s objective is to enhance the state’s energy security, reduce dependency on imported fuels, and support a self-reliant India. In March, the government and NLC India signed an agreement to form a joint venture for a 1,000 megawatt (MW) solar power plant and a 125 MW lignite-based power plant in Bikaner, with an investment of over Rs 7,000 crore.

Recently, the government approved land for four major solar projects, including three solar parks in Bikaner totaling 2,450 MW and a 500 MW project in Phalodi, attracting investments worth Rs 10,000 crore. This move positions Rajasthan as a leader in energy self-sufficiency and supports sustainable development.

Rajasthan, a leading state in solar energy production, aims to meet 43% of its power consumption from solar energy by 2030. Last year, the state installed 15,195 MW solar power plants. Additionally, the PM Kusum Solar pump plant initiative will install solar pumps in over 50,000 farms, generating 200 MW of electricity and providing financial support to farmers, particularly benefiting scheduled castes and tribes with subsidies and other benefits.
