Musashi Auto Parts plans a Rs 160 crore investment in Bangalore to localize EV two-wheeler e-axle production, targeting 1 million units annually by 2030 for India’s green mobility shift.

On June 5th, Musashi Auto Parts India Pvt Ltd, a Musashi Seimitsu Industries, Japan subsidiary, announces a Rs 160 crore investment in its electric vehicle (EV) business. The company has begun mass production of electric two-wheeler e-axles at its Bangalore facility, with an initial capacity of 10,000 e-axles per month in phase 1.

Plans include expanding production with additional lines starting in the third year. The e-axles, known for their compactness, lightweight design, and quiet operation, aim to enhance performance and range, providing electric two-wheeler riders with an exceptional experience.

This development signifies a significant milestone for Musashi, reinforcing its position in the growing Indian EV market and contributing to the nation’s shift towards sustainable mobility solutions.

Musashi Auto Parts India Pvt Ltd, in partnership with Delta Electronics, Inc., and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, continues to expand its presence in India’s EV sector. The joint venture, Musashi Delta e-Axle India Private Limited, where Musashi holds a majority stake of 51%, operates from a dedicated facility in Bangalore.

This facility hosts assembly lines for both motor and drive units to produce and distribute e-axles for two-wheeler EVs across India, Africa, and ASEAN markets. Musashi is on track to achieve a localization level of two-thirds of the total cost by the end of the financial year, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing local manufacturing capabilities and reducing import dependency.

With a focus on sustainability and innovation, Musashi is poised to contribute significantly to the growth of India’s EV industry, aligning with national objectives of promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions amidst rising EV demand in the market.

According to Naoya Nishimura, CEO of Musashi India & Africa Region, the commencement of e-axle manufacturing represents a pivotal achievement in their mission to drive EV adoption in India and expedite the shift towards sustainable transportation. He underscores the advanced technologies integrated into the production lines, enhancing assembly efficiency and increasing output. This strategic development underscores Musashi’s commitment to significantly shaping India’s EV landscape and supporting global efforts towards greener mobility solutions.
