In March 2014, Nova Instruments launched the ‘Nova’, a specially designed glove box that comes as a sealed container, which is designed to manipulate objects where a separate atmosphere is needed. Built into the sides of the glove box are gloves arranged in such a way that the users can place their hands into them, and perform tasks inside the box without breaking the sealed nature of the container. Part or all of the box is usually transparent to allow the user to see what is being manipulated. There are two types of glove boxes: one allows a person to work with hazardous substances, such as radioactive materials or infectious disease agents, while the other allows manipulation of substances that must be contained within a very pure and inert atmosphere, containing gases such as argon or nitrogen. It is also possible to use a glove box to manipulate items in a vacuum chamber.
