The ministry has plans to set up 14 similar technology centres across the country with an investment of Rs 22,900 million to train around 140,000 students and make them employable for MSMEs, manufacturing and processing industries.

Jamkhandi was quoted as saying, “The technology centres will impart skill sets through short-term and long-term training programmes in precision tooling, design and development of moulds, dies, tools and equipment and testing and calibration, including consultancy in related fields.”

Karnataka government has allotted 10 acres of land for the mentioned technology centre to be set up by MSME ministry. This tech centre will be the first of its kind in the country. K H Muniyappa, the minister of state for MSME, told reporters on Saturday, “We have decided to locate the first technology centre near Bangalore, as it is also the capital of aerospace and electronic industries and home to many state-run defence research and development institutions and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).”

The tech centre will have the testing and calibration facility and will facilitate development of precision tools required for the aerospace and electronics industries and provide the required manpower, especially for MSMEs in the Electronic System and Design Manufacturing sector.

The tech facility will be the main tooling centre and will allow access to latest technologies. It will also help in providing skill upgradation and offer advocacy support for specific industries, informed Amarendra Sinha, MSME additional secretary.
