Surya Group announces Rs 250 million investment into LED segment

led-special-lightsSaturday, August 16, 2014: Surya Group, one of the leading brands in bulbs, tubes and lamps, has announced an expansion as the company is planning to foray into the LED segment. The company will enter this division with 50 new products and for the same the company will make an investment of Rs 250 million.

The company’s managing director B Raju issued a statement saying, “Surya Group plans to make major foray in LED segment and envisages investing Rs 25 crore towards capital expenditure in the near future. The company has already invested Rs 20 crore for launching wide range of products.” A state-of-the-art technology has been adopted by Surya and they have also come out with some of the best products in the LED light division. The research work for this segment costs the company around Rs 200 million. Following the research the company launched LED lamps, batons, down lighters and decorative luminaries too.

Not only for indoor applications, but the company also released products for outdoor and industrial areas like new LED streetlights, facade lights and highway luminaries. The LED segment solely predicts that at the end of this financial year this Rs 40,000 million business will have a sales turnover of almost Rs 1,500 million. As reported earlier, Surya is also expected to have a turnover of Rs 18,000 million in next 3-4 years from the lighting segment and the company is also quite optimistic about its business as a long-term initiative. Raju added that the group company, Surya Roshni Ltd, manufactures around 80 per cent of the total production while 20 per cent is outsourced.

Quoting Raju, “At our manufacturing units in Gwalior and Kashipur, we have installed Japanese SMT and auto-insertion machines along with wave soldering and reflow machines to facilitate the manufacture of LED and driver PCBs.” The LED lamps manufactured by Surya are mercury-free and they save around 96 per cent energy. The longevity of these lamps is up to 25,000 hours which means that the lamps are capable to work up to 15 years. The group also exports to more than 44 countries which include Europe, North and South America, South-East Asia. The export list includes tubelights, CFLs and the LED products will join this export basket soon too.
