Saturday, September 27, 2014: “Ultra Mega” solar photovoltaic (PV) power parks will set a new benchmark in the solar industry in India in the near future, as expectations say. The Government of India is banking on this strategy highly for boosting the share of solar power by a massive capacity addition, which is possible through these Ultra Mega solar power projects.
NTPC Ltd. is sincerely following this initiative taken by the Centre. Their current generating capacity is of more than 43,000MW. Now NTPC, India’s largest power company, is planning to foray into the field of solar PV projects in coming years, as announced by the company. NTPC is also emerging as an integral part of PM Narendra Modi’s newly launched programme, ‘Make in India’.
As a part of this programme, NTPC has sent EOI or Expression of Interest invites from agencies to set up manufacturing facilities in India for crystalline silicon solar PV cells, wafers, ingots and polysilicon. The agencies can manufacture either by themselves or by setting up joint ventures or JVs in India. The EOI document is available to be downloaded for free from www.ntpctender.com. The EOI document needs to be submitted before 28 October, 2014.
