Marketing Solar energynerfyFriday, July 18, 2014: Plans to provide uninterrupted power supply to the city are under strong considerations. Energy minister D K Shivakumar in his three hour reply in state assembly informed that his department has prepared a presentation for the same in Electronics city. “We urge all educational institutions, IT companies and industries, to install solar panels and utilize it before giving the surplus power to 11 KV grid that would soon be set up”, he added.

There are plans to even pay $0.15 per MW to those, who are supplying the surplus power to the grid. Announcing his government’s decision to install 1,000 MW power in the next one year from renewable energy sources, the government has come up with solar power policy which encourages industrialists, farmers and investors to set up 1 to 3 MW solar power plants which has input cost of $1.164 million to generate one MW power. The ground rent would be payable to the farmer by the investor.

Shivakumar has keen interest in boosting up the power supply of the state and has invited $337.103 million to streamline the power system in next 18 months to come. On the model of other metro cities, they plan to introduce separate power grids and also build 150 MW emergency power grid. They invited people holding 100 acres of land to partner with them. He said that there is a shortage of 10 to 12 per cent in the demand and supply of electricity. The power generation have significantly increased from 4.32 MW in 1902 to 14,029 MW in 2014 but at the same time, consumption also increased by 20 million.

Shivakumar’s plans included involving sugar factories producing 1,350 MW to increase the production by 850 MW in the next three years. The state requires at least 2,500 MW per day by 2015 to meet the demand. There are plans to buy 400 MW power from kudankulam power project and Damodar Valley Corporation. He clearly said that there is no one to blame for the present condition of the power department and there is no time to look at faults at this time.
