March 26, 2015: India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), the premier trade body representing the Indian Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA) with an objective to promote ESDM industry co-operation and investment promotion to benefit both Indian and Taiwanese companies.

The collaboration will focus on establishing strong India-Taiwan relationship and create a differentiating proposition for India in the field of electronics and ICT. Moreover, IESA will encourage Taiwan-based electronics companies to bring more investments and commitments to the ICT ecosystem in the country and also, partner with Indian companies around technology and knowledge transfer. Both countries will see member delegations visiting industrial leaders, institutions, organisations and also facilitate trade meetings thereby helping respective member groups absorb international experience.

Last September, IESA had signed a MoU with Taiwan Computer Association (TCA) to work together and create opportunities of investment, providing skill enablement for increased job prospects in the ICT segment. Today’s announcement furthers the commitment with Taiwan and fortifies IESA’s intent in setting up the International Investment Promotion Cell, to support Government of India’s “Make in India” notion, for encouraging international investments in the Indian ESDM sector. International collaborations, driven by IESA are expected to establish a stronger ecosystem within India and reduce the nation’s electronics import to ensure significant contribution to the Indian Economy.

Commenting on the collaboration, M. N. Vidyashankar, President, IESA said, “India is positioned among priority destinations for electronics innovation, development and manufacturing, primarily due to its maturity of the market, availability of talent and the expertise India can bring to the ESDM supply chain with components like designing, embedded system, VLSI etc. This partnership will SPEED UP industry government relations promoting faster economic development. We acknowledge TEEMA’s effort in bridging India-Taiwan electronics segment and taking India’s potential to the next level.”

“Taiwan has introduced the world to advanced technology, with its expertise to foresee the next era of technology demand and deliver accordingly. However, we feel India has the best talent for driving innovation in this space. It’s our pleasure to partner with IESA, who has been working relentlessly to bring India on the global map of electronics innovation. We will be pleased to contribute to IESA’s effort and support them to build an electronics and ESDM ecosystem in India, which can address the global demand in the years to come.” – Roger Liao, Director, TEEMA.

 About TEEMA:

It has been almost sixty years since Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA) was founded in 1948. From the production of basic electrical devices such as light bulbs and power distributions after World War II, electrical and electronic industries in Taiwan had developed the sector as the world renowned IT Island in the 21st century. Witnessing simultaneously the development history of the Taiwan E&E industries, TEEMA has walked through with her members, step by step, to a glorious page of the industrial history of Taiwan. Not only that the E&E industries have become the core industry in Taiwan, it is also a sector that is most competitive internationally.

To help emerging priority industries cultivate capability for formulating international standards and enhance their technological level, the association, in addition to 36 committees, has formed 6 industrial alliances, in hopes of strengthening unity and integrated capability among companies in the same line, construct up-, mid-, and downstream industrial system, and facilitate technology transfer, so as to develop new products and technologies jointly.
