Monday, November 17, 2014: MEIL Green Power Limited has initiated a 50 MW Concentrated Solar Thermal Power Project farm at Pamidi in Ananthapur District of Andhra Pradesh. Unit of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd., MGPL of Hyderabad has invested a sum of Rs. 8480 million for establishing the project at about 350km away from Hyderabad on a 600-acre site.
The Associate VP of MEIL, Uma Maheshwar Raddy noted that the company expects revenue of around 1100 million per annum from the solar plant. He said, “Having taken up the EPC works for this project, we have taken several other solar EPC contracts in the country.”
The company official had also noted that it is the largest Solar Thermal Power Project in southern India. This power will expectedly reduce 80 thousand tonnes of carbon emissions every year. MEIL was honored by the solar power project mandate under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission for a capacity of 50 MW out of the total of 470 MW by NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam planned under the JNNSM scheme.
The parabolic trough collectors and the energy from the Sun is utilised by the CSP plant to generate heat, which will get transformed into turbines for power generation. The plant is expected to generate 110 million units of solar power and would supply it at Rs. 11 per unit. As per the agreement, the power would be supplied to NTPC arm, which will henceforth provide 440 million units of thermal power from Central unallocated power in addition to providing the solar power to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
